A 3-year-old North Dakota boy, Carson Urness, went missing from his back yard around 7pm on Monday. His distraught parents called in a search team to help find the boy, and about 200 people including the police and fire department joined the search party. The boy’s parents, Brock and Courtney Urness, were upset about the disappearance, but were somewhat comforted when they realized that the family dog had also gone missing. Courtney Urness said that she knew the searchers would only have to find the dog in order to find Carson.

Searchers Find the Boy and Dog

The dog, named Cooper, stayed absolutely loyal to the boy and refused to leave his side throughout the ordeal. A thunderstorm deterred the efforts of searchers, and some were called off when the rains got too heavy. About seven hours after Carson went missing, searchers came across Cooper, a golden retriever-shepherd mix. The searchers actually found the boy underneath the dog, as the steadfast friend covered the boy to protect him from the storm.

As searchers brought the boy back to his home on an ATV, Cooper stayed close by his side. The boy was evaluated at the local hospital, but showed no signs of ill health or distress. The boy has since been reunited with his parents, who are very grateful to both the searchers that assisted in finding the boy, and their faithful dog Cooper.
