It’s easy to complain about NBC’s coverage of the Olympics. Especially when #NBCFail is trending on Twitter. But in reality, this is a business, and the race to cover the 1 Billion plus rights tag is never going to leave everyone happy. But at least they could cover this tragedy.
All Shin A Lam had to do to advance to the gold medal round of women’s fencing was remain untouched for 1 second. The 15 year old volunteer referee (good to see the IOC hasn’t cut any corners) blew the whistle to continue the match. The clock start was delayed significantly, and Lam was overtaken in those additional, unintentional second. The Korean team appealed while Lam spent 30 minutes crying on the mat. She ultimately had to be carried out by security.
This sort of insanity should be reserved for their northern counterparts.
