The movie Mrs. Doubtfire was a hit back in 1993 when it was released, but both critics and cast members are torn on whether the newly announced sequel is a good idea. Director Christopher Columbus and Robin Williams, who played the lead actor in the first movie announced the intention to begin the sequel this past week. As soon as the news hit the web, troves of fans took to comments sections and social media to express their delight or horror at the prospect of a sequel to the 21-year-old movie.
Original Cast Reactions
Among those who were divided were the cast members that played the Hillard children in the original Mrs. Doubtfire. Mara Wilson, who played the youngest daughter Natalie Hillard, was among those who openly criticized the new project. She took to Twitter to state “For the record, no, I do not have anything to do with the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel, nor will I.”
Conversely, Matthew Lawrence, who played the middle child Chris Hillard in the first movie said that he would definitely be on board to act in a sequel. About the project, Lawrence says, “I hope they make the second as good as the first. The first was so good. It will be great to get the family back together.”
The third child in the original film, Lisa Jakub, who played Lydia Hillard, is undecided on whether she would be willing to be a part of the project. She is concerned that a sequel may not do the original film justice, but says that if anyone can pull it off it will be team that they have. What are your thoughts on a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel?
